Significance:

Ganesh chaturthi or Vinayakar chaturthi is a popular festival celebrated in India and all over the globe. Chaturthi is the 4th lunar day on which Lord Ganesha who is also known as Ekadanta ("One Tusk") was born on.

Vinayaka is a common name for Lord Ganesha that appears in the ancient puranas. The name Vignesha, meaning "Remover of Obstacles," refers to his primary function in Hindu mythology as the creator and remover of obstacles (vighna).

Performing Ganapathy Homa on the day will give us prosperity, health and wealth for the whole year. The festival is celebrated during the month of Bhaadrapada(August/September), starting on the shukla chaturthi (fourth day of the waxing moon period). Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is widely worshipped as the supreme god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.

The name Ganesha is a Sanskrit compound, joining the words "gana" meaning a group, multitude and "isha" meaning lord or master.
