Ganesha is widely revered as the "Remover of Obstacles" and more generally as Lord of Beginnings. Ganesha's head symbolizes the Atma (soul), the ultimate, or the supreme, reality of human existence. His human body signifies maya, or illusion, the earthly existence of human beings and the elephant head signifies wisdom. The trunk epitomizes Om which is the sound emblem of cosmic reality. The broken tusk is a symbol of sacrifice.
